POTATOES THAT ARE UNFIT FOR COOKING.
To the Editor. Sir, —A few lines re a matter that I think should be gone into. That is, the quality of potatoes. Since Christmas we have been buying potatoes, and some of them are sunburnt; some are quite unfit to cook with the blight, and others are quite rotten. Now, there are inspectors appointed to inspect the milk, fresh foods and other things, but no one seems to trouble about the potatoes which are used every day, and are a very important part of our food. I was in a shop the other day and a woman with a family of six bought a shilingsworth of potatoes. Now on an average* she will have to throw away half of them, so you can see how it is some children do not get a fair supply of good food. Trusting some inspector will be appointed to visit the stores and salerooms where potatoes are offered for sale.—l am, etc., SUNBURNT BLIGHTY POTATOES.
