ELIGIBILITY POINT IS NOT RAISED.
COMMUNISTS ABSENT FROM L.R.C. MEETING. The Communists appointed by the Printing Trades Union as delegates to the Canterbury Labour Representation Committee did not attend the annual meeting of the committee on Saturday night, consequently the question of their eligibility to act on the committee was not raised. If they had attended it was expected that the difficulty would have arisen as a result of a ruling by the National Executive of the Labour Party to the effect that a Communist could not be admitted to the party because he already was a member of another political party. The Communists on the other hand are understood to hold the view that their organisation is not a political party. There was an attendance of about forty delegates at the meeting and there were keen contests for the executive positions excepting that of chairman, to which Mr P. C. Webb, a former M.P., was appointed. The following other officers were elected:— Vice-chairman, Mr G. H. Thompson; secretary, Mr W. Green; executive, Messrs 1\ H. Butterfield, J. Cox, G. R. Hunter, E. Hamilton, and J. W. Roberts.
