LEESTON MAN DIES; SHOT THROUGH HEAD.

Samuel Martin Brown, a grocer living at Leeston, single, committed suicide on Saturday evening by shooting himself through the head. Brown was a returned soldier of temperate, steady habits. He had been slightly ill during the week before his death, but made no mention of any intention to take his life. His brother, in a statement to the police, said that Brown had brought back from France an automatic pistol as a war souvenir, but witness had not seen any ammunition for it. He last saw his brother alive early on Saturday evening. Brown shot himself late in the evening and was taken to the Christchurch Hospital, where it was found that his condition was hopeless. He died at 11.15 a.m. on Sunday morning.
