HORDER V. O’SHEA.

TUESDAY NIGHT’S CONTEST The cycling meeting on Tuesday night next at English Park Stadium, when Harris Herder, world's champion, will meet the Dominion’s champion sprinter, Phil O’Shea, will be on a par with the historic meeting to be held to-night, when Lloyd Hahn will meet Randolph Rose in the great running match. Herder is without doxibt a proved champion, having during the past four years met and defeated riders from all over the world, including the American Willie Spencer, who raced against. O’Shea at the Stadium last season. It will bo remembered that O'Shea defeated Spencer over a. quarter of a mile. With the defeat of Spencer by Horder, the clash between O’Shea and Horder is creating a tremendous amount of interest. Apart from the fact of seeing the match race, the attraction of witnessing a rider of the stamp of Horder In action is well worth the admission money. Horder has consented to race in the match race, the two-laps open handicap, and the five-miles invitation scratch race. Both O’Shea and Horder have been sparing no effort to get into the pink of condition, and both by Tuesday will have r<#u;hed a state of perfection for the great event. Besides being a test between two competitors, the race is also a test race between New Zealand and Australia, which gives the match an added interest. The question constantly asked amongst cycling enthusiasts is: "How will O’Shea shape against a world’s champion?" Can O’Shea defeat a rider who has defeated and broken records held by Frank Kramer, Hubert Opperrnan, Cecil Walker, J. Dempsey, Jack Fitzgerald. Pete Moskoeps. Willie and Art Spencer, Verdrine and Bill Bailey? The supporting programme, consisting of handicap cycling, amateur and cash running, is a well varied one. The sports will commence at eight o’clock.
