The Queen wrote to the then Kins: of the Belgians: “I am miserable and wretched; almost frantic without my angel to stand by me and put others down in their right place. My fate is too dreadful. If I could but go soon to him and be at rest. Day or night, I have no peace.” In addition to the features mentioned in Page 1, the following are the principal headings: (3) vigorous denunciations of the Romanising of the Church of England and a declaration of her intention to uphold Protestantism in England and the closer relationship of all Protestant Churches; (4) vigorous intervention to prevent England fighting Germany over SchleswigHolstein; and (5). a declaration that the British Empire must stand by Belgium alone, if necessary.
