A NEW ASPECT OF EMPIRE SETTLEMENT.

IMPORTANT ALLIANCES FORMED BY BANKS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Reuter’s Telegrams. (Received February 26, 9.25 a.in.) LONDON, February 25. Attention was focussed on an aspect of Empire settlement which hitherto has not received much notice at a dinner of the Knights of the Round Table, when Sir John Ferguson (a banker and a director of Bawra) said that of late the great British bankers had sought to broaden the base of operations by activities in foreign fields. They knew there were limitations to what they could do in foreign fields, but he was of opinion that there was no limit to what they could do in the Empire. Already some of the great British bankers had formed alliances and affiliations with banks working in the dominions. If the fight direction were given to the activities of these newly-formed relationships Mr Ferguson said he had no doubt they would contribute largely to the building up of Empire trade and drawing closer the bonds of Empire.
