ESSAY COMPETITION. Public interest is daily growing In this newspaper's announcement of the free offer of a grand tour of Australia or New Zealand beauty spots for the best essay on “ What the Motion Picture Means to Our Community." The contest opens on March I and terminates at midnight on March 20. It is a nation-wide feature of Paramount’s third greater movie season, which will be celebrated by all representative motion picture theatres in Australia and New Zealand. The tour of Australia or New Zealand will be awarded to the writer of the best essay (not to excee V 250 words) on this subject: “ Wh.it the Motion Picutre Means to Ou” Community.” Use your own words. It is the ideas and the information of the value of the motion picture to civic and community life that is wanted. An essay of only 50 words may win the grand tour. Just observe these rules: Essay must not exceed 250 words. Essay must be accompanied by application form printed herewith or obtainable from any motion-picture theatre celebrating Paramount’s greater movie season. Essay must be in this newspaper’s office not later than midnight. March 20. addressed to the movie editor. The three best essays sent to this newspaper will be forwarded to Paramount Pictures, Sydney, where the final adjudging of the winning essay
will be done by three independent judges. Any reader of this newspaper may enter the contest, as well as any patron of a theatre celebrating Paramount's greater movie season. If a woman wins the contest, expenses of a travelling companion will also be paid. In addition to the grand prize the Bristol Piano Company has donated a first-class gramophone, which will be awarded to the writer of the essay which is declared to be the best received from a competitor in the Canterbury district.
