WONDERFUL BREAK BY AN AMATEUR. J. EARLAM’S 435 AT LIVERPOOLLONDON, February 5. Meeting M. Naylor yesterday in the second heat of the Liverpool quailing section of the amateur championship at Liverpool, J. Earlam, the young Runcorn player, established a new amateur record with a break of 435. The time which Earlam took in making his wonderful break was thirt}'three minutes. The previous record break in the championship was 236, made bv Sidney H. Fry in 1923, while in 1920, under standard conditions, but not in the championship. Fry made a break of 256; A. G. Fay, in Australia, has compiled a break of 311 under standard conditions. Earlam gained a ridiculously easy victory by 655 points, and thus qualifies for the competition proper. Final scores:— J.
