March 11. Inkula, s.a, for Timaru. March 17. SHIPPING NOTES. Canadian Spinner reached Bluff nearly a day late, owing to her delay in Dunedin, due to rain holding up loading operations there. To-day Is a holiday in Bluff, and the vessel Is not expected to sail until Monday. She Is due In Lyttelton on Wednesday. Word has been received at the New Zealand Shipping Agents’ offices that the St Lawrence River is free of ice. All vessels will now load for Montreal direct instead of for Halifax. Canadian Spinner Is now loading for Montreal, and will be the first ship from New Zealand waters to go up the river in the new season. Canadian Challenger is due in Auckland from Halifax on March 7. She will discharge general cargo at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. Timaru and Dunedin. Her loading ports are not definitely fixed. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer Korean Prince left New York on Saturday last for to load for the following New Zealand ports:—Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, Dunedin and Wanganui. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Kent arrived at Curacao on February 20. and sailed on the same day in continuation of her voyage from Wellington to London. The vessel left Wellington on January 6. The Union Company advises that the Tofua leaves Auckland at 11 a.m. tomorrow for the South Pacific Islands. An arrival at Auckland early this week was the Norwegian steamer Hanna Skgglund from Texas. The Hanna Skaglund. which brought sulphur, cleared Panama on January 24. The R.M.S. Tahiti was to have left Sydney yesterday for San Francisco, via "Wellington, Rarotonga and Papeete. The vessel is due at Wellington on Monday, and sails the following day in continuation of her outward voyage. Whangape arrived this morning from Gisborne with sheep. The vessel returns to Gisborne this evening to load sheep for Lyttelton. Walpahi is due from Dunedin tomorrow morning to load for Wellington and Auckland. Ngakuta is now due on Sunday from Westport, with a load of coal. Karori was dispatched for Gisborne yesterday to load sheep for Lyttelton. She is expected back on Monday. Marania is timed to sail from Sydney at 4 p.m. to-day for Wellington, where she is due on Tuesday. Kauri is expected here on Wednesday next to discharge cement from Tarakolie. On completing her unloading she proceeds to Newcastle. City of Norwich was an arrival at Lyttelton yesterday front Wellington. The vessel will unload New York cargo at Lyttelton and proceed to Timaru. Port Albany, which was delayed at Timaru on Wednesday through rain, arrived here this morning. She loads here for London, and should leave for London direct tp-morrow or Monday. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruahine arrived at Lyttelton this morning from Wellington to complete loading for London. She is timed to sail from this port on Monday, proceeding by way of Panama and Curacao. Tredennick, from New York via Auckland. Wellington and Picton should arrive here to-day. \ Wingatui was expected here to-day, but the vessel was delayed at Wellington yesterday, and will not arrive here until to-morrow. Gallic finished loading meal and sailed last evening for Wanganui. Tees arrived last evening from Pitt Island with a load of sheep. She leaves to-day for Waitangi, where she will load for Lyttelton.

ANCHOR LINE’S NEW VESSEL. The Anchor Shipping Company has made another addition to its fleet by the recent purchase in London of the cargo steamer Margaret Birch. The vessel is about the size of the steamer Regulus. and was built in 1925. Her gross tonnage is 402 tons, and 148 net. She has been renamed th«» Totara. and is expected to leave England shortly. She will come out via the Suez Canal and Fremantle, and should res>'h Wellington about the end of April.

CITY OF NORWICH. The Ellerman-Hall Line’s steamer City of Norwich arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning from New York, via Auckland and Wellington, to land case oil, general merchandise and motor-cars. Her other ports of discharge are Timaru, Dunedin and Newcastle. Built at West Hartlepool in 1913. the City of Norwich has since been trading mostly from Europe to India and other Eastern ports, as well as to America and Australia- She is a vessel of 6 726 tops groas. Her furnaces are adapted to burn coal or oil. She was coal-fired until reaching Balboa, where the furnaces were altered. She will be oil-fired while in New Zealand waters and afterwards will probably be converted again to a coal burner. On her present voyage she proceeded from Liverpool to Bombay. Karachi and Calcutta, and after discharge loaded Eastern produce at Calcutta for Halifax (Nova Scotia), Boston and New York. On completion of discharge at New York she loaded her present cargo and

then sailed for New Zealand on January .10. Colon was reached on January 17, and a stop was made at Balboa to load oil fuel for her bunkers. She cleared Balboa on January ]9, and experienced fine weather and smooth seas until February 4. The remainder of the voyage was made under boisterous conditions. A moderate south-west grale and heavy seas were first encountered and the speed, which had averaged 12.3 knots from Balboa, dropped to seven knots. Captain L.
