THREE MONTHS GAOL FOR THEFT OF CARGO.

WATERSIDERS TAKE QUANTITY OF TOBACCO. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. February 25. Walter Dange and John Essex Denver eaux, watersiders, were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of theft of 201 b of tobacco, part of the cargo of the steamer Manuka. The tobacco was found by a detective in the coat pockets of accused, but the accused said that they intended to hand the tobacco to the watchman. “I’m afraid their story won’t do,” said Mr Page, S.M. “It seems clear to me that, this cargo was pillaged by these men, or some other men in concert with them.”
