Mr and Mrs 11. Humphries, Napier, are registered at Warner's Hotel. The Misses Linklater, of Palmerston North, are visiting Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Robinson, Fendalton, are spending a short holiday in Dunedin. Miss Jean Taylor, Gloucester Street, Linwood, and Miss Olive Walker a.re spending a short holiday at Dunedin. Miss Nancy Henderson, Oxford, is the guest of Miss Mary Morrison, Merii vale. Mr and Mrs P. Coyle, Ohingaiti, left for Blenheim this morning, after a brief visit to Christchurch. Mrs W. Bridgman and Miss Cheers, Sydney, are visitors to Christchurch, and are staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mrs Bruce Stringer, Eltham, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and is the guest of Mrs 11. Quane, Innes Road. Miss Seth-Smith, who was with Miss Knubley, Sarah Street, Timaru, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr and Mrs H. H. Fraser, Wai-iti Road, motored back to Timaru from Christchurch on Tuesday. > Mrs Ilanraer and Mrs Scott, who were at Cadogan, Sefton Street, Timaru, motored back to Christchurch on Monday. Mr and Mrs Walter Wake, England, are overseas visitors staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs T. B. Boulton, after visiting Dunedin and Wellington, have returned to their home in Sumner.

Mrs R. W. Pankhurst, New York, who has been spending several days in Christchurch, left for Mount Cook this morning.

The Misses Elsie and Ethel Searle. of Gisborne, who are at present staying in Christchurch, will leave on Saturday for Dunedin.

Mrs Toogood and Mrs Small, Wellington, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and will spend a few days at the Clarendon Hotel.

Miss Allen and Miss E. Smith, of Sydney, arrived in Christchurch this morning and are registered at the United Service Hotel.

Mrs Milligan, Wellington, Mrs A. G. Bignell and Miss Bignell, Wanganui, are among the recent arrivals staying at the Clarendon Hotel.

Professor Shelley and Mr Ilaagen Ilolenbergh left Christchurch yesterday for Timaru, and gave their joint recital in the Bay Hall last night. The latter is the guest of Mr and Mrs E. J. Mirams, Beverley Road. After touring the North Island, Miss A. C. Serpell, of Melbourne, spent a few days with Mrs A. Lingham, 54, Edinburgh Street, Spreydon, prior to motoring to Timaru, Mount Cook and Dunedin. Miss Serpell intends to spend a few days in Christchurch before she returns to Australia in March.

The following are among the recent arrivals at the Hotel Federal:—Miss J. Meeton, Waimate; Mr and Mrs R. Cottrell, Auckland; Mr J. E. Garrard, Wellington; Mr J. Mullin, Oamaru; Mrs W. Carson, Kaitangata, Mr J. Snushall, Kaikoura; Mr M’Gregor, Masterton; Miss Brown, Nelson; Miss Leslie, Miss Harris, Whangarei: Mr and Mrs M’Natty, Lawrence; Mrs Colson, Auckland.

The first quarterly meeting for this year of the council of the Mothers’ Union was held on Tuesday at Church House. Mrs W. G. Roberts presided over a good attendance of branch presiding members and secretaries. This being the year of jubilee for the Mothers’ Union, a great deal of extra work was reported to be in hand. Secretaries were asked to faithfully carry out all requests. Mrs Carrington was elected a member of the Dominion council. It was decided that the executive and members of the council arrange for a welcome to Mrs West-Watson, who, with the Bishop and their family, would arrive in Christchurch shortly.

The monthly meeting of the Syden-ham-Cashmere branch of the Plunket Society was held on Thursday in the Sydenham Football Club rooms. Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson presiding. Those present were:—Mrs J. K. Archer, Mrs L. Clark, Mrs Greenwood, Mrs R. W. Anderson, Mrs R. L. Saunders, Mrs Down, Mrs Poore, Mrs A. Derbidge and Miss E. Bowron, honorary secretary. It was decided to provide additional seating accommodation for the mothers who attend the Plunket rooms, and Mrs Anderson and Mrs Saunders were deputed to buy suitable chairs. Thanks were accorded Mesdames Poore and Greenwood for their respective offers of a table and cover. Arrangements were made for a tennis tournament to be held on the Cashmere courts early next month. A donation of £1 was received from an anonymous giver for the funds of the society.
