Mr .E. M. Chettle, manager o£ the Bank of Australasia, who is retiring on account of ill-health,- was entertained by clients at Ballantyne’s rooms to-day. There was a large gathering of business men and bankers, who took the opportunity of welcoming Mr Chettle's successor, Mr A. V. Winchester. Mr H. O. D. Meares presided, and on behalf of the gathering expressed his regret at the retirement of a man who had proved himself a capable financier and able adviser, and such a good friend to clients of his institution. He handed to Mr Chettle a wallet of notes. Mr John M Gibbcn, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, made a highly complimentary reference to the guest, whom he had known closely for several ysars. Mr Chettle, in responding, reg.etted very much that he was leaving the bank. He was going on a trip, after which he hoped to settle once more in Christchurch.
