In a letter to Sir Martin Conway, from New York, Sir Joseph Duveen announces that in order to encourage British art. he is forming a small committee of ten, of acknowledged -position and authority, and placing at its disposal £IOOO annually to purchase paintings of contemporary British artists, preferably young artists. The committee will hold the pictures acquired with power to lend or present them to any public gallery in the British Isles, British Empire or United States.
