PROTEST MADE TO AUTHORITIES.
BUYERS MAKE THEIR PREPARATIONS.
(Special to the "Star.”) WANGANUI, February 15. The wool-buyers are proceeding with their operations at the stores to-day as usual, in anticipation that the allocation will be increased. The Allocation Committee will meet in Wellington this afternoon, and their decision is anxiously awaited. The Mayor, Mr Hope Gibbons, and Mr A. G. Bignell, chairman of the Harbour Board, sent the following telegram to the Prime Minister, the Wool Committee and the Minister of Agriculture : A serious situation has arisen in connection with to-morrow’s sale owing to the limitation of the catalogue. The buyers will not operate either here or elsewhere unless the catalogue is extended to at least 16,000. Double the quantity of wool to be offered is in store here. The action of the committee in reducing the catalogues is adversely affecting the farmers of the district generally. We feel we are not being treated fairly and strongly protest against the continual limitation of the Wanganui catalogue. We would be pleased if you would look into the matter with a view to remedying the position, otherwise serious complications will ensue.
