PAY-AS-YOU-ENTER IS A WASTE OF TIME.

To th« Editor. Sir.—l was not greatly impressed with the arguments of your correspondent regarding the sale of tram tickets, but I am strongly in favour of doing away with cash where pay-as-you-enter buses are concerned. When the driver cannot, for safety's sake, make a forward move until his fares are collected, either entering or leaving. an enormous waste of time is entailed in collecting fares. Th*is could certainly be overcome by the use of tickets purchased in advance, or even of concession cards. In that connection I agree with your correspondent that greater facilities should be afforded for the purchase of concession cards, and they should be available at any time until they run out.—l am, etc., ANOTHER RATEPAYER.
