PIGEON FLYING.

CANTERBURY CLUB. The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club flew their final old bird race of the season from East ('ape recently. Thirty birds were sent, divided amongst twelve owners. The birds were liberated by the chief officer of the s.s. Wainui at 7.5 p.m. in fine, clear weather. Unfortunately. through bad weather prevailing on the second day of liberation, only five birds were recorded home in the time allowed for the race. The winning bird. Snapshot, the property of Mr R. Taylor, flew the distance of 526 miles 993 yards .in the time of 18hr 40min 46sec (after deducting hours of darkness). Mr G. Robertson gained second and third places respectively. The following are the results:— Yds. per min. R. Taylor's Snapshot .... 525 G. Robertson's Sturdee . . 660 <7. Robertson’s Anonymous 613 A. Buckley's No. ISO 612 Another of Mr A. Buckley’s birds reported home in race time. G. Robertson bolds for one year the club's East Cape trophy. Season’s aggregates, old birds, combined routes—G. Robertson wins the Scott Service challenge trophy outright with 56 points; A. Buckley is second with 471 points and A. C. Gerard third with 39J points. •Combined East Coast route—G. Rob- I ertson wins the G. Anderson challenge cup outright with 27 points, R. Taylor is second with 231 points and A. Buckley third with 221. First East Coast hamper, best aggregate—J. J. Elliott special prize, A. G. Gerard 17 points 1. A. Buckley J 5 points 2, D. Dore 131 points 3. Mr A. Smith's special prize for the best aggregate in the. club's four long distance races—A. Buckley 271 points 3, G. Robertson and G. Green 20 points (equal) 2. A. Buckley wins the special prize donated by Mr J. Pratt for the winner of the second Auckland race.
