The urgent necessity of immediate measures to check the fall in the franc was the text of a speech by M. Doumer in appealing to the Chamber to vote for the Government's measures, because a new crisis would mean unemployment and misery. He said that the franc in April last year was worth 28 centimes of gold, but was only worth 18 in December. It was now worth 18L M. Doumer said that inflation last year amounted to seventeen milliards of marks and further inflation was impossible.
