Christchurch, have taken a house at Okains Bay for a few weeks. Mrs A. Lorimer has returned to Christchurch after spending several weeks in Dunedin. Mrs Graham Scales, who was staying in Christchurch, has returned to Ashburton. Miss Muriel Wilson, who has been spending a short holiday with Dr and Mrs Gagley. at Rakaia, has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs and Miss Cunningham and Miss Kurl (Christchurch) spent the week-cad with Mrs Reg Mason, Okains Bay. Miss I>. Dixon, of Wellington, who had been in Christchurch for several days, has returned to the north. Mrs Colin Cook and Miss Maude Cook, Lyttelton, will leave to-morrow for a holiday visit to Dunedin. Mrs Dalrvmple and family (Fendalton), who have been spending the school holidays at Brighton (Otago), have returned to their home. Miss Gaudin has returned to her home in Cranmer Square, after making ■a round of visits to several of her friends. Mrs J. Mrs Peter Helmling. of 336, Worcester Street, leaves to-morrow for Wellington, to join the Marama for Australia, where she will spend an extended holiday. Mr and Mrs A. Samuels, Wellington, and Mr and Mrs .1. A. Kenyon, of Sydney, arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and are registered at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs A. Sutherland, of Pel- | merston North, and Mr and Mrs G. Pirie, Wellington, are among the recent arrivals staying at Warner’s Hotel. The engagement is announced of Miss Alma Frances Ward, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Ward, Christchurch, to Mr William Marcus Wills, fourth son of Mr and Mrs A. R. Wills, Invercargill. v The committee of the New Brighton branch of the Plunket Society met at the residence of Mrs C. W. Dixon on Tuesday evening, to bid her farewell on her departure for Wellington, where she will in future reside. Mrs Dixon ,has until recently acted as honorary "treasurer to the committee, and many appreciative references were made to the great help she has been to the society in New Brighton. An enjoyable party was held recently at the residence of Mrs Fransden, 219, Moorhouse Avenue, to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of her daughter Lily. Miss Kitty Parr, of Perth, is the guest of the Misses Jackson, Purau, Lyttelton. Mrs Y. Ardley, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs Gilchrist, Butler Street, Timaru. Mr and Mw Ardley will leave New Zealand on Wednesday en route for England. Mr and Mrs 11. L. Dillimore, of Bankside, have arrived in Christchurch after spending an enjoyable holiday at Dunedin. They will spend a few days with Mrs Swaney, of Office Road, before returning to their home. The engagements are announced of Peter Chapman, of Wanganui, to Moira Baker, Decpdene, Cave; and of James Sherwood Manchester, eldest son of Mr James Manchester, Waimate, to Mona C. Melton, only daughter of Mrs J. B. Melton, Waimate. While on an extended tour of New Zealand. Mr and Mrs 11. C. White, of “ Inglenook,” Melbourne, paid a visit to the latter’s sister, Mrs T. A. J. Lingham, of 54, Edinburgh Street, Sprcydon. After spending a few days sight-seeing in Christchurch. Mr and Kirs White left for the North Island, where they intend to spend a few more weeks visiting the various tourist resorts prior to returning to their home in Australia.
