INDIAN ARMY HOCKEY TEAM TO TOUR N.Z.
WILL ARRIVE MAY 18; PLAY TEST IN CH’CH. The New Zealand Hockey Association has received cable advice from the British Army headquarters, Delhi, India, stating that the army representative hockey touring team will arrive in New Zealand on May 18 approximately. The team will remain in New Zealand for nine ■weeks, playing eighteen matches at the following towns: Wanganui, Gisborne, Napier, Dannevirke, Nelson, Westport, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, Geraldine, Carterton, Wellington, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Auckland, Hamilton, and possibly Whangarei. In addition two test matches will be played at Christchurch and Auckland. The visiting team will be composed of three British officers and twelve natives, mainly Sikhs. The natives should prove a great attraction in New Zealand. They play hockey as part of their military training, with the result that they have achieved a high state of efficiency. In addition to being clever stick players, they are very fast, and should be able to give a good account of themselves against the best side which New Zealand is able to place in the field.
