The legai profession in Christchurch will hold the annual holiday on Tuesday next, when cricket, tennis and bowls will be played in Hagley Park. In connection with the Christmas ap’peal of the Rotary Club on behalf of the orphanages of Christchurch it is reported that a sum of £3Bl 18s 2d was collected, made tip as follows:—Proceeds of band concert on December 20, £lO3 17s 9d: proceeds of collection on December 23, £IOB Is 2d; proceeds of -collection on December 24, £169 19s 3d. The expenses in connection with the appeal amounted to only £39 5s 2d. Each child in the orphanage received Is in cash, and this accounted for £sl Bs. The rest of the money was distributed amongst the various homes and orphanages in and around Christchurch.
