BIG SHARK LANDED BY ZANE GREY PARTY.

VISITORS ENJOY SPORT IN NORTHERN WATERS. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND. January 29. On the first day out Mr Zane Grey’s party secured a fine hammerhead shark weighing 3601 b. It was hooked by Captain Mitchell. Mr Zane Grey hooked a fine swordfish. After playing it for some time the hook came out and on the end was a whole frostfish, believed to be taken out of the swordfish’s stomach. Mr Grey had the misfortune to lose it. A fine swordfish caught by Mr Greenwood. of Hawke's Bay. on the launch Speedwell, weighed 2311 b. Another swordfish secured by Mr Goldsmith, of England, in the launch Doris, weighed 2131 b. Commander Struben, of Cape Town, hooked and landed a large Reremai shark. This is what they have been calling the grey nurse shark. Mr H. Preston-Stark, of the bullion department of the Bank of New South Wales, Sydney, visited Mayor Island yesterday to test the deep sea sport for a few' hours. He observed several swordfish and hooked a very large one, which fought strenuously for some time. It broached twice,, and propelled itself on its tail, and eventually broke free. Mr Stark sa3*s it was a magnificent specimen of the species. He regretted that he could not stay for a week or so to enjoy the fishing, but hopes to visit these grounds next year with a party of friends .
