RAT ANA MAY FOLD UP TENT LIKE ARAB.
TE KUITI MAY REPLACE WANGANUI AS HEADQUARTERS OF SECT.
Per jhress Association. WANGANUI, January 29.
“It is not the first time in the world's history that new religions have been obliged to seek pastures new,’’ a reporter was informed to-day, when inquiring into the report that some of the Ratana executive are seriously considering the removal of the headquarters of Ratana Church to Te Kuiti. One Maori said that the natives had been pin-pricked by local bodies and health authorities in regard to sanitation at Ratana, and they resented this interference. Should the headquarters of the church be removed, doubtless this would mean that a large number of Maoris now living at Ratana would also go to Te Kuiti. This in turn would be a big loss to the business people of Wanganui. It is also mentioned in connection with the removal proposal that a big farming scheme is being discussed whereby the voting Maoris may be trained in farming pursuits, and the produce of the farm will be used or sold for the benefit of the new Maori community.
