The Executive Committee of the Canterbury Advertising Club met last night; present—Messrs J. Petterd (chairman), H. Instone, P. Sherlock, P. Graham, W. J. Crampton, H. Knight, J. J. Staples and W. J. Heslehurst (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. Butler and F. Walls. A letter addressed to Mr Heslehurst personally from the president of the Advertising Association of Australia and New Zealand (Melbourne) was read, and it was decided to take steps to affiliate with that body, which in turn is affiliated with the Advertising Clubs of the World. It was decided to resume the club’s activities in February, and arrangements were made for two addresses, one on “ Marketing the Product ” and one on “ Psychology in Business,” by two well-known exponents of these sciences. A general invitation will be extended to all business men to attend the meeting, which will be advertised. Preliminary arrangements were discussed for an unusual form of entertainment instruction in advertising practice at the club’s annual meeting in March. The secretary was empowered to engage the Chamber of Comnlerce hall for the 1926 series of meetings. A proposal was favourably received that a Vigilance Committee be appointed, consisting of five buyers (not sellers) of advertising, to investigate and certify advertising schemes, in order to protect members against the wiles of the- vendors of bogus advertising projects, which business men complained were becoming very common and a source of annoyance and expense. A letter will be sent to the Auckland Advertising Club for details of the protection scheme in operation there.
