BOROUGH COUNCIL.
AKAROA. The first meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council for this year was held on Wednesday. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong), and Councillors Stewart, Williams, Leete, Masefield, Pool, M’Nab. and Parnham. An apology was received for Councillor Burnham's absence. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Councillor Leete, s. vote of condolence was accorded the widow* of the late postmaster, Mr C. E. Johnstone. The motion was carried In silence, councillors standing. The volunteer fire brigade applied for a new outfit. The application was granted. The Public Trustee wrote notifying 1 per cent Increase of interest allowed on certain classes of funds placed on deposit with the Department. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote agreeing to further subsidise the council’s expenditure In entertaining the men of the American Fleet, to the extent of £lO, which had been placed to the council's credit. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded, the Minister. The secretary of the Domain Tennis Club wrote forwarding £26, being part payment of cost of altering the courts. The Municipal Association forwarded the order paper for the conference to be held at Dunedin next month. The Mayor, as the council’s delegate, was given a free hand as regards voting on the various remits. The Mayor, who is the council's representative on the Hospital Board, gave an Interesting account of the work done in the different Institutions controlled by the board, also a summary at receipts and expenditure for the past rear. Councillors Williams and Leete, who were the counoll’s delegates at the Hospital Board's inspection of the Institutions, gave an account of their visit. Both delegates spoke highly of the good work done in all departments. The finanolal statement showed receipts since last mseting to have been £647 7s Id, and accounts presented for payment totalled £386 7s 6d. Councillor Stewart tendered hla resignation as chairman of the works committee, owing to his appointment aa county clerk at Duvauchelle, The resignation was accepted with regret, and it was resolved that an appreciation of his services be placed on record. Several members testified to the good work done by Councillor Stewart, CouncillQj* parnham was appointed chairmans -- - —. . _
