MODERN EVE’S FOOLISH CRAZE.
The rising generation of British womanhood was never more naturally beautiful than it is to-day, yet the total of money and time spent in “mak-ing-up” that which does not need to be made up is colossal. Two big reasons explain the vogue of the beauty shop and why many chemists are buying motor-cars and taking expensive holidays. One operates with the young, the other with the middle-aged. With the young there is the great competition to get married, never more cruel than it is to-day. What does man want in woman? My own opinion is that the modern young man favours the “fast and flighty” type. The good girl gets left. She has a poor chance, and is really booked for the surplus. For this reason girls make up so as to have what the French call “the beauty of the devil.”—Mr Edward .Cecil. ....
