N.Z. CRICKETERS NOT TO PLAY IN CH’CH.
COULD NOT GET TEAM TOGETHER FOR MATCH. The proposal to play a match between the New Zc&lsnd tcflni, which has toured in Australia, and a second New Zealand eleven, in Christchurch, on the arrival of the former team, has been abandoned, owing to the difficulty of getting players together. The members of the touring team have also expressed their desire to get home straight away after their arrival in New Zealand. CONGRATULATIONS. Mr Combs, secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union, has written to the Cricket Council conveying the congratulations of the Rugby Union on the splendid showing of the New Zealand cricket team in Australia, which speaks well for the future of the game in the Dominion. Andrews took three wickets for 34. Kelleway two for 83, Macartney two for 83. In their second innings New South Wales have lost three wickets for 294 (Collins 84, Macartney 113, Kippax not out 41, Kelleway not out 35). The weather was fine and the wicket good. The South Australian batsmen vigorously attacked the bowling in a successful effort to avoid a follow-on. Macartney played at the top of his form. He gave a fine display and in partnership with Collins rattled the score along at a great rate. Collins was much slower, and played a careful, sound innings. In the first innings New South Wales scored 642.
