From Our Correspondent. GREYMOUTII, January 6. MOTOR-CAR LEAVES TRACK. While leaving Victoria Park after the races yesterday, a motor-car driven by Miss R. Steer, and containing several passengers, left the track just inside the main gates, and came into collision with three ladies, residents of Kokiri, who were on - the grass at the side of the track. The car bumped into Mrs Greenaway, and Miss Henderson was either rolled over by the car or run over by one of the wheels. Miss Steer was driving slowly and the car was pulled up almost immediately. Mr J. Steer later conveyed the ladies home to Kokiri. Neither Mrs Greenaway nor Miss Henderson appeared to have sustained any injur}', but they were suffering from shock. The wind blew Miss Steer s hat over her e3 r es, and temporarily obscured her vision.

RESIDENT MAGISTRATE. It is reported that a movement is afoot to abolish the Resident Magistrate at Westport and work the whole district from Greymouth. An agitation is in progress at Westport against the rumoured change. OBITUARY. The death of Mr Patrick Galvin took place at Wellington this morning, after a short illness. Deceased came to New Zealand when a boy, and went to the Otago goldfields. Early in the sixties he arrived at Hokitika, where he was engaged in driving the coach between Ross and Hokitika. On leaving Hokitika, he took a position driving with the late Mr John Mitchell, between Greymouth and Reefton. Deceased lived for many years in Greymouth, after which he took up his residence at Wellington. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family. PERSONALS. Mr P. F. Gillin left this morning on a holiday trip to Wellington. Messrs C. Pugh and L. M'Girr. who have been visiting Auckland, returned by yesterday's express. Mrs W. T. and Miss K. Thomas returned to Greymouth yesterday, after ) twenty-two mouths’ holiday abroad.

Mrs E. M’Conochie and Miss M’Conochie, of Wellington, are visiting Greymouth. They are the guests of Mr and, Mrs T. Brown. The funeral of the late'Mr Joseph Boyd took place at the Karoro cemetery this morning, the service being conducted by the Rev W. J. Williams. Miss Harper, of Christchurch, accompanied by Miss Gertrude Johnston, of Greymouth, will leave Christchurch tomorrow, en route for Sydney, and will proceed later to England by the Maloja, sailing about February 10. Mr Leslie M’Ginley, son of Mr and Mrs J. M’Ginley, of the Timaru post office money order branch, has been appointed officer in charge of the post office at Port Nelson. Mr and Mrs C. Parsons, of Welling ton, arrived in Greymouth yesterdayon a visit to relatives. They leave for Dunedin on Saturday. At the Karoro cemetery this afternoon, the funeral of the late Mrs Elizabeth Jane Williams was largely attended. The service was conducted by r the Rev J. F. Martin. The staff of the railway workshops was represented by the foreman. Mr W. F. G. Pullin. Mr R. W. M’Neill, a former resident of Reefton, and first secretary of the Inangahua Miners’ Union, is an inmate of the Rotorua Hospital. Mr M’Neill is suffering from injuries which have rendered his arm useless. Misses Muriel and May'’ Fowler, of Wellington, are on a visit to Reefton.
