SHIRLEY-ST ALBANS NOTES.
WELCOME SOCIAL. The Berwick Street Presbyterian Church Hall was filled last Monday when a welcome social was given in honour of the Rev W. T. Todd, who has taken over the charge of the church. The Rev T. W. Armour Introduced Mr Todd to the gathering. Speeches of welcome were given by Messrs Wrenn, Yardley, and Doak. Musical items were given by various members of the church. Mr Todd, in his reply, thanked the gathering for the welcome, and expressed his pleasure at being amongst them ; ST ALBANS EUCHRE ASSEMBLY. At last Tuesday’s Assembly, the following were the prize-winners of Christmas hams: Mesdames Manship, Hamilton, Henzel, Gracie, and McCullough, u Messrs Claude Dixey, Robinson Herriott. Hunter and McFarlane. Next Tuesday the series will be continued ' with special crockery prizes. ST STEPHEN’S BOY' SCOUTS The Scouts, in connection with •St i Stephen’s Church, will go into camp for a week under Scoutmaster Sullivan. Tents have been pitched at the corner j of Briggs and Marshlands Roads. 1 PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs Frank Soanes, of Edward Avenue, are spending their holidays in \ Rangitata. Mr B. Knox, who has taken a keen interest in the formation of the St Albans Swimming Club, and who acted as a committeeman of the St Albans School, has left the district to take over the position of Town Clerk of Lower Hutt, Wellington. Mrs B. R. Chinnery and Mrs 11. Soanes are visiting their relatives in Invercargill. Mr and Mrs G. Bailey and family, of Kinloch Street, will visit the Dunedin Exhibition next week. MUNICIPAL BAND CONTEST. The next municipal band concert in St Albans Park will be given by the Municipal Band on Tuesday, January 5. EXCHANGE OF PARISHES. The Rev N. Friberg, Mrs Friberg and daughter will leave next Monday for Granity, West Coast. Mr Friberg has arranged a three weeks’ exchange with the Vicar of Granity, Rev G. S. Nelligan, who will take Mr Friberg’s place at St Stephen’s Church for three Sundays. ST ALBANS RECREATION CLUB. The series of euchre tournaments which have been run during the past six months for the purpose of liquidating the debt on'the Winton Street Hall have been well organised and financially successful. Over £IOOO has been paid over to the trustees of the hall by the organiser of the parties (Mr H. Soanes). It is the intention of the club to continue the series as long as public support continues.
