AFTER A CIGARETTE.
LONDON, October 20. Found unconscious in a doorway at Redmore Road, Hammersmith, Mr Henry Lythgoe, a twenty-two-year-old gardener, of Sunrise Cottage, Guernsey, is recovering at the West London Hospital. Mr Lythgoe, wearing a dinner jacket, was found about 8.30 p.m. last Friday, and recovered consciousness on Saturday afternoon. “I was over here on a ( holiday,” he told a “Daily Mail” reporter, “and on Friday I went 1o Wembley. In the evening I came to Hammersmith Broadway, where a man unknown to me asked me for a match. "He then asked me if I would like a cigarette. lie took one for himself from a packet and then gave me one which he brought out of his pocket. He suggested that we should go to the pictures together and I agreed. We had a ride on an omnibus and then went for a walk up a street. The last thing 1 remember was walking beside him. “When I regained consciousness, T found myself in hospital, with my ■wallet, which contained £7 and a return ticket to Guernsey, missing.” No trace of poison was found in the contents of Mr Lythgoe's stomach, which were removed for examination, as it seemed possible that he might have been given a drugged cigarette. The cause of his illness is not known, but the police are investigating the affair.
