CANTERBURY WOMEN'S CLUB.

MJRS H. HOLLAND ENTERTAINED. Or.:. The members of the Canterbury Women’s • "lub met. in the club rooms, Manchester Street. yesterday after noon to honour their president. Mrs Ifenry Holland. Never have the club rooms been more crowded than they wxre on this occasion. Clusters and bowls of beautiful rose blooms in many shades were used in the decorative scheme. The committee and Mrs Winter Hall were also the guests of the members for the afternoon. The guests were received by Miss Williams. Mrs Holland, to whom the occasion was a complete surprise, wore a smartly tailored tunic suit of nigger brown gaberdine with revers and pipings of deep maize, a hat of brown georgette, with two rolled bands across the crown, a cluster of shaded leaves at one side, and a small feather mount. Musica\ and elocutionary items were given by Mrs T. I). Kendall, Miss Ngaire Hooper. Mrs Booeock. Mrs M’Laren and Mrs Robinson. Miss Williams on behalf of the members, referred in eulogistic terms to the many fine qualities of their president. Mrs Holland was respected by the members for her charming manner and her tact in all matters in connection with the club. Miss \|finiams asked Mrs Holland to accept a;. gold wristlet watch and a blue Morocco handbag, as a Christmas gift from the members. Mrs Holland was also the-recipient of many floral tributes frojn the various club circles. In responding Mrs Holland expressed thanks for the. gift, which had been a pleasant surprise. She hoped to -pend many more happy hours at the club. She was deeply grateful for the £qnfi(|eiice the

members had placed in her, and she would always do her best to merit the honour. A dainty tea was served. Reference was made by Mrs R. T. Tos will to Miss Grand, for the artisticwork done by her through the year in connection with the decorating of Ihe club's rooms. A vote of thanks was passed.
