GARDEN PARTY AT SUMNER

The spacious grounds of Airs Isaac Wilson's residence “Brantholnie,” Sumner, were in perfect order on Wednesday afternoon for the garden party held there in aid of the funded the local croquet club. A gay scene met the eye on entering the gate, the flower beds, and summer frocks, the artistically decorated stalls making vivid splashes of colour againll'l the varying green background of the trees. The stalls, which were laden with tempting wares were in the charge of members of the Croquet Club, who at the close of the afternoon reported a satisfactory result from the sale. An excellent musical programme arranged by Mrs Wilson, entertained the visitors, who greater appreciated each it£m.

Those who contributed items were: Airs Wray Wilson, Airs Cook. Airs F. Kerr, Aliss Ilylda Parnham, Aliss Bessie Browne, Air G. F. Allen and Aliss Dorothy Alexander. The stallholders were:-’ —Fancy stall, Alesdames E. 11. Johnson; C. Crosby, T. E. Whitfield; take stall, Mesdames G. F. Allen, H. Y. Widdowson, and C. AI. Roswell; sweets stall, Alesdames T. Chambers, F. W. Partridge, and J. Lee; produce and flowers, Miss M. Bain, and Aliss M. Wood; afternoon tea, Alesdames Thomcon and Ogier and Aliss Wood: ice cream and drinks. Masters Jack Crosby and Desmond Johnson. The lawns were thronged with visitors throughout the afternoon. Amongst those present -were:—Alesdames E. C. W. Powell, Gray, H. J. Marriner, Wrav Wil-' son.
