At a meeting of the executive it was decided to make a statement to the public that the funds were collected for a purely 1 symbolical memorial, and the site was unsuitable for a carillon of bells, which was strongly favoured by a section of the subscribers In consequence four members of the executive resigned, protesting that the statement was inaccurate and highly prejudicial to the interests of the memorial
