NEW AWARD FOR MANURE WORKERS.

The Arbitration Court has issued its award in the Canterbury Manure, TalJOW anrl Soap Workers’ dispute. The award is to remain in force for two years from Xovember 30, 1923. The award provides for a week of I forty-eight hours, to be worked between 7.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on five da vs a week and between 7.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on one day a. week. The wages are to he as follows:—Tallow workers, manure workers (including chemical manure) and acid workers. Is 10$d per hour; ehamhermen an d other workers on con I tinuous shifts, 2s per hour; soap and : candle workers. Is LOd per lmur. Work- ! ers on extra shifts are to be paid Id per hour additional to the foregoing rates. Men in charge of extra shifts . will receive 3 further Is per shift in | addition. Men engaged chipping boil- j ers or digesters, cleaning sulphur or * boiler flues, working in acid, towers or I chambers, cleaning den-flues and fan. or cleaning inside circular bagging ma- j chine screens, are to l.e paid at the rate of time and a half. Workers en- i gaged in discharging shipments of sul- j phur are to be paid 3d per hour in addi- | tion as dirt-money. Overtime is to be paid at the rate of | time and a half for the first four hours and double time thereafter. On Sundays, Good Friday, Labour Day and Christmas Day double time is to be paid, and on other holidays time and a half is to be y»aid.
