SMELLS AT RICCARTON.

To the Editor. Sir.— During This week being health week there have been gieat discussions on the various menaces to health and a great deal has been said in regards to the drainage of sections, which no doubt is very necessary. But 1 think more serious menace to health is the stagnant water lying in the ditches of the footpath. The boundary of Riccarton is a disgrace to the borough. The council has promised that channelling . shall be done, but still the water lies, and at present there is a smell. No doubt the council will wait until there is an outbreak of fever. I am. etc., RATEPAYER.
