Among the Aztecs, the ancient inhabitants of Mexico, it was the custom to make images of their gods m paste; these were broken up and distributed among the worrifipiiers. At the top of Shooter's Hill, Blackheath, there stands a milestone inside the church railing. On one side it marks “8 miles to London.*’ On the other " 130 miles to Ypres.”
