The first fatality in the surfing season in Sydney occurred at Coogee during the week-end. when a boy of thirteen was caught in a strong undcr-tow. carried out to sea and drowned before help arrived. The damage through floods at the Sydney wharf fire is estimated at £BO,OOO. In the shed there were 15.000 bales of wool, valued at £53,000, as well as-band iron, tallow and other materials. The wool presses, valued at £OOOO, were also destroved. Of the, three Marlborough County Council loan proposals presented, two were carried: £IO,OOO for the purchase of road making machinery, and £SOOO for the erection of a scries of bridges. The third proposal, £3OOO, to lay down certain sections of road in bitumen, was defeated. Playing ir Perth in a billiards match, Lindrum (S 001) defeated Falkincr (7798). At Greymouth, His Honor Mr Justice Reed reserved his decision in the case of Joseph Pfahlert v. Joseph Lewis Sweeney, a claim tor £522, for breach of agreement, in the purchase of the Royal Hotel.
