SHIPPING TROUBLE GROWS AT ADELAIDE.
WATERSIDERS AND SEAMEN HOLD UP SHIPS. 13y Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received September 21, 11.30 a.m.) ADELAIDE, September 21. A dispute has arisen between the Adelaide Waterside Union and the Adelaide Shipping Company over the number of bales to be placed in a sling. Union- officials instructed the men only to put four bales in a sling and the company insists upon six. The Board of Reference upheld the company’s claim and the wharf labourer's refused to handle the wool. It is expected that all the Gulf fleet will be held up. Seamen refused to sign on the Paringa, fearing that they would have towing work to do and that they would run the risk of being imprisoned as were the crew of the Quorna for refusing to carry out similar duty. The seamen demand the insertion of a clause in the articles providing extra pay in the case of towing work.
