A party of 158 seamen from Australian Commonwealth Lino steamers disposed of in England, \dicv returned f<> Australia. 1 his week, admitted that, during the return voyage 32,000 bottles of beer had been consumed, although not by them alone. Tho consumption liad worked out at about “no and one-third bottle a day per adult. The seamen, who were passengers on the steamer Barra bool, did not lake kindly to the fare usually supplied to immigrants. They alleged that from the start of the voyage thev had to tight for sufficient food. They said that as sailors on Australian vessels they wore better fed than they had been on the Barrabcol. It was during an inquiry concerning the • complaints that they admitted consuming such an enormous amount of liquor.
