Tho Association football match result ed in England defeating Australia b five goals to one. The weather was fine and tlie attenc unco totalled 25,000. The ground wa good, though slippery in places. England scored In the first half, th Australians being out-played. Rattc got the first goal five minutes after th start and seven minutes later the wing er, Hannaford, playing superbly, sen the ball to Simms, who headed it int the net. Simms goaled again ten min utes later, having received the ball fror the left winger. Australia now attacke strongly but the English right bact Charlton, was a stalwart in defence an the Australians were repulsed. Just be fore half-time Australia again invade the visitors’ territory, only to be beate off. The second spell saw a rattling pac set. When play had been going onl; four minutes, Lennard, getting the bal from the left wing, goaled for Australia The speed was weakening the Engl is! combination. Play went backwards ant forwards, but. finally, tho Engl is! team's cleverness told and their persis tency ended in Seymour, the left winger centring the ball for Simms to push i into the net. With two minutes to gHannaford sent a long pass to Batten who goaled. the game ending:— England 5, Australia 1.
