DIMINUTIVE NURSERY FURNITURE.

Ii rmer years the nursery people, when they dined or supped, were wont to perch insecurely on cushions, or on books, to enable them to reach the table-top. Times have changed, however, and nowadays no modern nursery is complete without a set of miniature furniture for its tiny occupants. Squat little chairs gather round a diminutive table, which is generally round—not out of respect to King Arthur and Knights of legendary fame —but because the circular shape presents no angles or corners whereon you can so easily come to grief if you’re only half-past-two, or even three years old ! Then, when the child has attained the dignity of his first reading lessons, he puzzles over the alphabet while seated at his very own desk, which obligingly provides a drawer for pencilbox and lesson book. The seat is firmly secured to the desk at the base. Little wardrobes and chests form suitable resting places for wee garments, and arc so beautifully accessible to little hands that the usually arduous task of putting their own clothes away becomes like a very special kind of game to thc children. These nursery suites are often enamelled in gay colours and attractive pat-terns-—but the very newest arc thase of plain, unstained, unpolished wood. They are so easily cleaned and never need repainting or re-vanishing—while another advantage they possess over the painted ones is that they accord perfectly with practically any existing colour-scheme.
