WAS LOG AT FAULT?

Per Press Association. WANGANUI, June 20 The Magistrate made the following Statement during the Cyrena enquiry to-day:— “If the oral evidence of Captain Paterson and his officers is to be accepted, and wc. do not wish to say we do not accept it., it may l>e considered proved that the ship’s draught was approximately 16ft Gin. We are of opinion that this evidence should be supported by documentary evidence in the ship's legs in a form that will put it beyond doubt. On this point we are opinion that these records are not satisfactory, and show some evidence of slackness. The log books have not followed the instructions, and do not give the help they should give.”
