t;ie rugby game. CANTERBURY UNION. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union met last night. Present—Messrs A. E. M’Phail (in the chair), E. V. Phillips, A. Duggan, W. Maxwell, W. Britten, C. S. M’Cully, A. Barrett, It. H. North, C. W. Allard, J. K. Moloney, It. Britton and G. P. Payne. Writing in reply to the union's letter regarding the provision of a dressing shed at Opawa Park, the Town Clerk stated that the matter had been referred to the Deserves Committee. A letter was received from the ’Varsity Football Club regarding the club’s junior team defaulting to Ivaiapol ©n June 6. The failure of the team to attend was through an unexpected misunderstanding among the players. As the college opened after vacation only on June «?. it was impossible to get in touch with all the members of the team. The club regretted the inconvenience caused to the referee and the spectators. With regard to the club’s teams defaulting on May SO, it. was stated that the committee of the club had decicktd that during the college-cvacation as many teams as possible should play each week so instead of sending in a list of teams which would default for the the whole vacation the secretary was instructed to send In a list to the Rugby Union each week. Owing to the acting secretary being call ..-d out of town on short notice the weekly notice to the union regarding defaulting teams was unfortunately overlooked. The explanations were accepted. Regarding the proposed tour of the Dominion by a Maori team the New Zealand Union wrote stating that it had not been finally decided that this tour should be abandoned. The letter continued: —“The position is that we have asked the Maori Advisory Board to forward to us full details of the tour, covering the number of players, the cost of assembly, outfitting, the matches to be played and the guarantees received from the unions to receive visits. Pending receipt of this information my union has not authorised the tour.” The letter was received. The following letter was received from the secretary of the New Brighton Football Club:—“ln reply to a copy of a letter from the Albion Club sent by you to the New' Brighton Club, iny committee are of the opinion that they (Albion) have been very much misinformed. We have no knowledge of a split In the New Brighton Club and up to date do not know of any members wanting clearances to join up with Albion. . . At present we cannot quite understand the letter saying that six of our members resigned, which is quite contrary to fact.” It was decided to send a copy of the lettei* to the Albion Club. The Hurunui Sub-Union wrote applying for a grant of £5 towards footballs. There are about twenty schools in the sub-union’s district. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee. The Christchurch Journalists' Union wrote asking the Rugby Union to support an application to the Lancaster Fark Board of Control for better accommodation for the reporters at the park. The letter .was received and it was decided to instruct the union’s representatives on the board to give allwthe support possible towards providing better accommodation for the reporters. The Albion Football Club wrote stating that the club’s senior team had had caster Park each Saturday. The club asked that electric lights should be provided. It was decided to have the matter attended to. The Kaiapoi third grade A team was given permission to withdraw from the competition, and the Tramway team from the second grade competition. With regard to the Northern v. Southern Sub-Unions' game and the Town v. Country game, the chairman said that the original arrangement was that the sub-unions’ match should be played on Wednesday, July 22, and the Town v. ! , Country match on July 25. However, with the representative matches coming i on all the Saturdays possible were required for the competition matches. It was now proposed that the sub-unions’ match should be played on Wednesday, July 15, and the Town v. Country match on July 22. This proposal was agreed to.
