“ BLOT ON BRITISH SCIENCE AND SPORT.”
METHODS OF HUNTING WILD ANIMALS CONDEMNED. J'.v Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.—Sydney “Sun” Cable.(Received June J, ‘.I a.iu.) LONDON, May 31. Sir Francis Newton, of Rhodesia, speaking at the Shikker Flub banquet, said that for every band of animals delivered in Europe to till zoological societies' contracts, at least. 100 mothers, during the breeding season, were mercilessly hounded over the veldt, mutilated and killed. It was the worst blot on British science and sport. Lord Lonsdale, who was chairman, promised to intervene. He stigmatised the American method of motoring at night time after animals, who were bewildered and crippled in a mad rush from the blinding headlights before they were shot, as the most unfair and cruel pursuit conceivable.
