KREISLER.

PREFERENTIAL PLAN OPENS. It- is now definitely announced that the great. Kreisler will give one recital at the Theatre Royal, Christchurch, on Saturday. Juno 13, under the .direction of Mr F>. J. Carroll. It is many a long day since an announce-

I ment of such import to tho music lovI ing people of Canterbury was raadr. It has been hoped that Kreisler would be ! persuaded to leave the art centres of 1 Europe and pay a brief visit to tbe Antipodes, and now that hope is to reach fulfilment. Of this great genius of the violin the musical critic of the “London Times” recently wrote: "It is the fashion nowadays to hail every one endowed with a liberal amount of executive skill as *A great artist,’ and according to that standard of measurement- it is possible that more than one of tbe violinists recently heard in London might bo placed with Kreisler. Yet the moment we hear him again we are assured that there is something different, something that is not to be computed in terms of execution, even though we are amazed at the things he succeeds in doing a tiny phrase in Vital/s last movement and by the magic which lie works with the point of the bow in Vjotti- Kreisler does nothing to shako confidence in bis power to express all that the music is capable of expressing, and to make his hearers live in his experience of the musio whether it be great or small. It is that which makes Kreisler ‘great/ and if greatness is to be appropriated by others then we must, find another term for him or at least, admit it applicable to Kreisler in a higher sense.” To obviate an undeI sirable rush on the box office at the last, moment it has been decided to onen tbe preferential box plan for the on© Christchurch recital at the Rristol Piano Com pan v to-day. particulars concerning which will be found in our advertising columns.
