NEW CHARMING MUSICAL PLAY.
‘AYJLDFLONVER ” The recently organised J. C. "Williamson. new English musical comedy company, headed by Miss Marie Burke, will appear for the first lime in Christchurch on Monday week. The initial attraction of the season is announced iu the presentation of the extraordinary successful musical play, "Wildfiower. ’ which has recently created a fresh record for Sydney, having run at the Theatre Royal in that city for eight consecutive months. Of “Wildfiower” the critic of the Sydney “Sun” writes: “This really delightful play is fortunate in l-aving a leading lady so cut out for the job as Marie Burke; she has a strong, true voice, a fine carriage, and is a most accomplished dancer but above all things she.has personality of a highly intriguing nature in her eminently artistic portrayal of ‘Nina’ (Wildflower) . It is a part that calls for sojm devil and this Miss Burke is also able t.» supply. Undoubtedly this thorough artist is a valuable acquisition to the Australian stage.” An exceptionally capable company has been secured to interpret the play. Gus Bluett plays a delightfully asinine person with signal success. He has the power of making a character real behind the caricature. Charles Zoli. a new comedian, is a distinct success. Marie La Varre is well in the picture, and is first rate through-' out. Herbert Browne is a great singing asset, and plays the young lover with ease and dignity. Ma. jorio Dawacts and singe well, while Noel Allan has a congenial part in “A’berto.” Especially fine is the scenic display) The dressing is excellent, and the Spanish dances of the three ( nnsonis are clever and novel. “Wi'dflower”' will be played for the first five nights,' and will be succeeded by' the “Cousin) from Nowhere.” The box plans will' be opened at The Bristol Piano Company on Friday morning nex'. at nine o’clock.
