CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
j TO-DAY’S MEETING. 1 A well attended meeting of the | Christchurch Presbytery was held this I morning in St Paul's Schoolroom. The i Rev N. L. D. Webster presided. After the formal business of the meeting Rev Dr R. Erwin paid a tribute to the work and worth of the late Rev C. Murray. A motion to this effect was placed on record. A committee consisting of the Aiodorator. Dr Erwin and the Rev T. AY. Armour, Mas set up to report on the South African and Canadian ordinals, with a view to the adoption of one ot them in the New Zealand Church. It was agreed that the suggested date for the opening of the Assembly in Dunedin he accepted, so that it might coincide wilh the date of the opening of the Exhibition. Permission was given to the Akaroa Presbytery to borrow £6OO. Air Rose reported that the appeal sent out for funds to establish a fund for two bursaries of £25 each for the training of ministers, had not been answered from all the charges. The clerk. Air F. Nieholl. moved that a long-service diploma be granted Captain and Airs Hatch well of Lyttelton. Captain Flatohwell had a. record of for-ty-one years’ service in the church. During that time he had been superintendent of t.he Lyttelton Sunday School for thirty-five years and an elder of the church for twenty-eight years. Airs Hatch well had a record of fortytwo years’ service. The request was gra n ted. It was reported that prizes of £5 os and £3 3s had been offered for essay's on some aspect of Presbyterianism. A discussion regarding Hie forthcoming mission of Gipcy Smith resulted m the question being held over till next meeting. Correspondence was received from the Hon R. F. Bollard stating that, the Presbytery’s protest t.o the holding of rafiles had been noted.
