CHINESE ATTACK ON HOUSEBOAT. ENGLISHMAN WOUNDED. By Telegraph—Press .Association—Copyright Reuter’s Telegrams. (Received May 12. 10.30 a.m.) PEKIN, May 11. A message from Shanghai states that, a house-boat with two British subjects, Messrs Lawson Hall and Walker, and their wives and children aboard, was returning across the harbour from a pleasure trip just before nightfall. When nearing a Chinese gunboat, suddenly without warning, the latter fired a fusilade at the house-boat with rifles. Air Lawson Hall was wounded in the thigh. The British Consul-General entered a strong protest. Ho was informed that the shooting was the outcome of the crew of the gunboat becoming panic-stricken owing to a warning of an impending attack by an opposing faction. GUNBOAT CHIEF APOLOGISES.
