QUIET MAY DAY IN LONDON.

The May Day demonstrations passed •without serious trouble owing to the precautions taken by the police, who arrested about a hundred supposed agitators. A mass meeting of workers, inclm ing women and Koreans, passed a resolution urging, inter alia, the repealing of the Peace Preservation Act, and advocating the organising of a national labour federation. Ten thousand people marched in a procession to Hyde Park to participate in an international carnival. The monstrution was principally remarkable for the number of. children carrying the Red Flag and for the foreign element. especially Jewish, who were unusually conspicuous, while a small body of Asiatics marched under a banner demanding a freo India. At the conclusion of the demonstation the procession marched to the Bulgarian legation where, amid the singing of The Red Flag,” a protest w a s presented against the alleged persecution of Bulgarian workers. The crowd outside was reg a 1 e d with speehces by the leaders, including one from Sir Ben Tillefc, a member of the House of Commons. A slight melee resulted in tlie police clearing the pavement amid bco-ing. A Bulgarian official, replying to the protest, declared that the stories of oppression were maliciously spread and were unworthy of credence.
