PLUNKET SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Koval New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket rooms. There were present Mesdames J. Cracroit Wilson (in the chair), H. R. Smith. E. Harper, G. ; Lester, C. Chilton, J. S- Neville A. R. I Bloxam, Algar Williams, E. J. Cord- ! ner. J. Stevenson. Al. H. Godby, B. j IT. Gilmour, Cecil Wood. and Aiiss : Bagiev. Apologies were received from Alesdames A. H. Bristed. L. Clark and G. Ait-ken. Mrs E. J. Cordner was appointed to act on the Hospital House Committee Airs H. R. Smith. who recently accepted the office of president of the Papanui sub-branch, reported good progress. A parcel of Chinese embroidery had been sent to her for sale, and the proceeds would be added to the funds of the ‘ Alothers’ Cottage” fund as a contribution from the Papanui branch A cheque for £SO was acknowledged with thanks from the Girl Guide Asso- : ciation. This sum represented half fcho proceeds of the Russian cabaret organised by the association. Remits were discussed for the conference of country branches to be held in tho City Council Chamber, which the Alayor had kindly promised should be lent for the occasionMrs B. 11. Gilmour. convener or tno “Alothers’ Cottage” sub-committee reported the acceptance of a tender from Air J. Rutledge, contractor for the mothers’ cottage, to be commenced almost immediately at lvaritane Hospital under the supervision of Air Gordon Lucas. Thanks were expressed to the Heathcote County Council for their prompt action in erecting a street lamp at tne entrance to Karitane Hosi>itaL Nurse Al’Clea, who had returned from England, assumed duty on the staff on Alav 1. For the office Nurse Allan reported 102 new cases. 612 visits paid to homes. 66 adults and 074 babies visited therooms. 13 expectant mothers were interviewed : at tho Sydenham room seven new cases, 111 babies, 125 adults, and 22 older children wer ( . seen. At the Papanui room 43 babies. 47 adults, and IS older children were seen ; Leeston, one new case 12 adults, 12 babies, and five older children were seen; Springston. five babies, four adults and four older children wore seen: Southhridge, four babies, four mothers, and one older child were seen ; | Lincoln, seven babies, seven mothers, J and two older children were seen ; Bel- j fast, three new eases. 24 babies. 31 | mothers, two older children were seen, j three visits paid to homes: Kaiapoi, j three new cases. 30 babies, 44 mothers, seven older children were seen, and two home visits paid. With the epidemic restrictions still in force, the visits to the office have ! been fewer in number this month. A r ei y j little sickness of a general nature, apart from indigestion, was met with. The ante-natal clinic. which was commenced on March 12. has continued every Thursday afternoon. Twentytwo visits have been paid by expectant mothers. Dr Elaine Curr has striven lectures to the nurses everv Friday evening. For the hospital Matron Knight reported 13 babies admitted, 12 discharged. 16 in hospital, four mothers admitted, four discharged, and two in hospital. Three premature babies were ! admitted during the month. Miss Satchel] commenced duty as staff sister on April 4.
