New members on the Auckland City Council arc;- J. \V. Court, C. J* . Bennett. M. J. Coyle. L. A. Lady, G. , Brownlee, and L. J. Phelan (Labour). Eight out of he ten Labour candidates j were unsuccessful. The i'olloiving Mayors have been elected: Onclnmya. Mr Lomas; Mount Eden. Mr E. H. Potter, unopposed; Newmarket., Mr Donaldson, unopposed; Nortbcuic. Mr Deuxberry ; Birkenhead, Mr L. G. Skeates, unopposed; Mount Albert, Mr L. L. Rhodes; TuUapnna, Mr J. ]_>. Morison ; Dovoiipor., Mi T. Lament; Ot&liuhu, Mr Todd unopposed; Avondale, Mr W. J. Tail. On the Hospital Board, the lour sitting members and Airs Kidd will fill the five vacant scats. On the Harbour Board, the four vacancies will be filled, by Messrs Bloodworth, J.nder, J'oliuston and Murray. Owing lo an error in the ballet papers a fresh election will probably be necessary. Lock (sitting) 1199; 11. Coltman 957. T. W. Forster 7.1. Gore F-'i- the Mayoralt- D. L. Poppie well 701 was re-elected, defeating D. M. Thomson IS2. I Vhangarci - for the Mayoralty, J. E. Holmes defeated L. J. Brake 03- fifty voles in a poll of 2000. Otaki -an unusual feature oi the Borough Council election was that onlyone of the previous council (Mr O'Rourke) was re-electecl. Dargavillc For the Mayoraltv. the sitting Mayor, Mr R. E. Ilornblow, who had held the position tor six vears. was defeated by sixty-nine votes’by Mr F. A. Jones, who had a strong backing of business men. The voting was—Jones 401, Ilornblow 302. Tauranga—A poll was taken on the half-holiday question, Wednesday being chosen instead of the present Thursday, by a large majority. Saturday was very poorly supported. A poll was also taken as to whether the council should continue running pictures in the down Hall as a municipal enterprise, or whether the hall should be leased. The result was 61S votes for lease, and 333 for continuance of municipal control.
